Fiber artist, Neha Puri Dhir (1983, Inda) explains her motives and feelings behind this colorful, geometric textile: "Abstract symbolizes the craziness of a new inception. It is the excitement and restlessness of a child, a quest to unravel the hopes. The dreams and beliefs are splashed on the canvas for the viewer to decipher. The subtle pattern may infuse hope or it may simmer chaos. To me, it is abstract."
Artist Statement: "My journey as an artist has been a quest to impart a visual language to the varied influences and interactions that have left a mark on my mind. Having worked closely with traditional textile craftspeople across India, the heart has always appreciated the labor of love. The visual language of this art reflects many world cultures. The fabrics have echoes of many age-old resist dye techniques, including shibori from Japan, bandhej from India, and adire’ from Nigeria. The patterns are planned and the colors require precise chemistry. Yet, each step adds complexity making the end result is often unpredictable."
