The Night stands as one of the most iconic series featured in the upcoming Summer Exhibition UK, 2025—a luminous ground of new works we’re thrilled to present.
Painted entirely en plein air under moonlight, with no artificial light to guide her, Shizico Yi embraced the night with unfiltered presence.
Relying solely on instinct, memory, and decades of intimate knowledge of her hand-mixed pigments, she rendered the shifting skyline and the interplay of light and shadow through pure feeling and confidence and understanding of her craft.
The painting captures more than just a night-scape—it is a meditation on looking without seeing, on trusting in one’s craft, and on the deep, expressive power of painting. The contrast between evening Blue and velvety Black evokes a poetic stillness, making this diptych one of Shizico’s most celebrated pieces in recent years—a quiet triumph of vision, presence, and artistic devotion.
Note: the Measurement 40 x 60 CM is for two canvases lineup side by side, as a reminder, that after framed, they will appear larger and they would bring a substantial impact to your space and to your collection!

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi is a UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday. Yi uses painting, drawing, photography, large-scale installations, moving image projections, and two-dimensional visual images to articulate her relationship to family and memories, and time.
