About the Item

This oil painting by landscape artist Alexa Roscoe is inspired by the view from her home in Oxfordshire — a scene she returns to often in her work. Captivated by how the landscape transforms throughout the year, Alexa has created a series of paintings that explore this familiar view through the changing seasons. In this piece, she captures a particularly serene moment, using a soft, harmonious palette of pinks and greens to reflect the gentle light and atmosphere. The defined lines of the hedgerows bring a sense of rhythm and structure, while the bold yet delicate brushstrokes in the foreground add depth and movement. By revisiting the same landscape again and again, Alexa explores the subtle interplay of light, color, and time — inviting the viewer to see the beauty in both constancy and change. After graduating Alexa moved to London where she worked as a freelance designer for a printed textile company. Alexa Roscoe now lives in Oxfordshire with her husband and two children. They live amongst fields and trees which is a constant inspiration for the Alexa. Alexa Roscoe says of her works: I am drawn to painting the landscapes around me, enjoying the colours in nature and how the colours change through the seasons. I love seeing new ideas for paintings as I drive through the countryside, and different compositions on my walks. I love to watch how the landscape changes through the seasons. Each season bringing its own beauty and colours. In my most recent work I have been enjoying the silhouettes of the leafless trees standing against the different tones of greys and greens. Even winter is inspirational! I have a passion for colour and love to notice the way they compliment each other and how they sit together in nature. When I am absorbed in a painting working intensely with colour I start to notice all the colours all around me in a different way. How the roads can have a purple look to them and how the hedges have so many colours in them. I even enjoy those great winter days. Noticing the beautiful tones of greys and how they sit next to the golden autumnal colours and green fields. I love using oil paints, how they are so versatile. Sometimes I like to layer the paint creating a striking flat finish. In contrast to this I also like to create works with energetic bold brushstrokes. Sometimes combining both of these techniques. The rich colours and bold brush strokes create depth and interest to my paintings. I have always enjoyed and have been inspired by colourists such as Henri Matisse, Hockney and Bonnard. The way they see and express colour.
