About the Item
Here we have a very confused flamingo that thought following the gulf stream would lead him to the Gulf of Mexico, sadly mistaken, ended up in the Lofoten islands, an archipelago off the coast of northern Norway. Me thinks he will have to catch a cruise ship to return to the tropics, no palm trees here.
In creating this piece, I aimed to merge the boundaries between realism and surrealism, illustrating a vivid, almost fantastical moment grounded in lifelike detail. Here, a flamingo stands, poised yet seemingly puzzled by its small reflective pond, contrasting dramatically against a rugged mountain background and expansive sky. The scene invites contemplation about nature and perception, stirring a sense of wonder and introspection in any space it adorns.

Evy Olsen Halvorsen (aka Halvorsen Holstein) was born in northern Norway and cur-rently lives in Kingston WA. Evy and her parents immigrated in 1956 to the neighborhood of Ballard in Seattle WA. After graduation from High School, and some community college, Evy moved briefly to San Francisco before landing in Kitsap County with husband and daugh-ters. After raising her daughters, owning a couple of businesses, she continued her educa-tion at Cornish College of the Arts, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts, cum laude in 1999, in Painting and Printmaking.
