Franck Chabry

Frank Chabry was born (in Lausanne in 1916 and died in Geneva in 1979) is a Swiss painter and art teacher. Born in Lausanne and of Swiss nationality, Frank Chabry spent his childhood in Lausanne during the First World War; his father Jacques Etienne Chabry, French, having been mobilized as an artillery officer. At the end of the war, the family moved to Paris. His mother Gabrielle de Jongh returned to Switzerland and settled in Geneva in 1928 following her divorce the same year. Frank will assume at the age of 12 the responsibility of head of the family because of the laws of the time. However, he will be able to follow the courses of Ph. Hainard at the École des beaux-arts. The granting of a Swiss federal scholarship enabled him, from 1948 to 1950, to resume painting studies in Paris, at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, under the direction of Professors Planson, Lestrille Mac'Avoy. He was himself a professor at the Decorative Arts in Geneva, from 1961 to 1979, the year of his death.
