About the Item

Charming fine oil painting of pups and rabbit in a cabbage garden. Reminiscent of storybooks, the three animals are friendly, with one puppy looking at the rabbit and the other looking at the viewer with puppy dog eyes. You can almost imagine the puppy saying hello to the rabbit! Set by a stone wall and wooden door, as in an English or European garden. The animal portraiture is superb. There is a signature that appears to be ‘Paulsen’ but is unidentified. There is a possible date ‘76 beneath the name. 1876 or 1976? It is likely the painting was re-stretched or relined as there are old nail holes in the canvas but it has been stapled on to the stretcher. A bit of a mystery, but the endearing quality is very evident. Canvas sight is 7.5” by 9.5” in a deep 2” frame as shown in photos. Wonderful overall condition. 14” by 16” including the frame. Gold toned wood frame with decorative inside corners. I would encourage you to reach out with any thoughts about the origin of this delightful work!
