About the Item
Fine landscape painting, this oil on canvas of Snowdonia, Wales is by 19th century British artist Thomas Huson, RI, (1844-1920). Signed by artist in lower left, Thomas Huson was a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, elected in 1883. Huson exhibited his work in London extensively from 1871 including the Royal Academy, Suffolk Street Gallery, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Society of Painter Etchers, Royal Society of British Artists and the Grosvenor Gallery. His work has been sold by Christie's, (2007).
Grazing sheep by a waterfall are shown in a wintry mountainous scene. The colors are earthy, browns and whites easily adapted to almost any color scheme or neutral setting.
This fine work has had previous restoration, and is presently in very good condition. The gilt frame is ornate and shows only wear consistent with the age, over 100 years old. Vintage patina is evident on the likely original frame.
