About the Item

Flow is an original oil painting on canvas by New England artist Anita Loomis. This 30 x 30 inch painting depicts two people enjoying an exploratory kayak trip down a winding waterway. The figures themselves are vessels of water, calling attention to our body's natural connection to the oceans and waters we live near and traverse. The colors of this piece are vibrant and evocative of a summer's day. Anita Loomis is a painter who works from her studio in Kittery, Maine. Her series of paintings often focus on communication or the natural world and are executed in an expressionistic style. Color and light are the main elements that drive this artist to paint, and she will often make use of gilding and stencils in the execution of her works. Loomis earned her BA in Studio Art from Framingham State University in Massachusetts, and her MA with a concentration in Arts Management from the University of Central Florida. She worked in the field of architectural stained glass for fifteen years and has focused on painting since 2004. She lives and works in Kittery, Maine. Her work has been exhibited at Miller White Gallery, South Dennis, MA; Fountain Street Gallery, Boston, MA, and various exhibitions in New England, Pennsylvania, China, and Japan. Her work is collected privately. Loomis is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.

Sailing to the Sun, Reflection in the Water, Oil , Abstract Landscape, Nature
Located in Houston, TX
Sailing into the Sun is an abstract landscape painting. It is oil on canvas. It is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame. On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms. Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it. Artist Statement: " I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes. The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it".
