About the Item
Hard-edged, jazzy, abstract —bold in color, line and form is by Burton Kramer. Internationally renowned as a fine graphic designer, the Canadian artist brings the same precision and intuitive sense of color and shape to his artwork.
This composition is composed of graphic elements that appear to dance around the canvas. Kramer is known for his eclectic color palette—this piece is rendered in a delightful mix of greens, blues, pinks, yellow, mellow and red. In Italian, ‘divertimento’ means ‘diversion’ or ‘amusement’ and in this case refers to the musical genre that is both light and entertaining. Kramer often names his work after musical terms. One of a series.

Burton Kramer was born in New York City in 1932. He is renowned for designing the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation logo in 1974. Kramer trained at Yale University (MFA), The Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (BSc), The Royal College of Art, London (Fulbright Scholar) and The State University of New York.
Kramer has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Arts Ontario, The Order of Ontario by the Province, an Honorary Doctorate from Ontario College of Art & Design and was named a Member of the Order of Canada. His work has been exhibited in galleries internationally and is held in many private and public collections.

Burton Kramer
Burton Kramer (b. 1932) explores the language of visual forms and sound. The artist trained at Yale University (M.F.A.), The Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (BSc), The Royal College of Art, London (Fulbright Scholar) and The State University of New York. Kramer is one of Canada’s most influential graphic designers. He designed the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation logo in 1974. This is an original sill life interior painting of fruit (apples) with a geometric fractured composition. The artist made the painting one section at a time.
