About the Item
Intermission The break, the pause, the space. Sometime it is holiday that can set us straight and "restore our factory settings." In this case it was the Scottish Highlands and two weeks in the campervan. The landscape was beyond all of my expectations and a visual treat of all the aspects I love in a painting, the big against the small, the near and the far, the "this" and the "that". All the differences that make any break so nourishing. Intermission, a loose abstract landscape quietly packed with a strong and calm energy. Love it from afar and come up close and rest in the peaceful spaces. 80 x 80 cm cradled panel. Sold unframed but shown framed to help you imagine it in your own home.
With Time To Spare The luxury of being able to squander time, when we have no-where to be right now and with nothing pressing on the mind. This abstract painting conjures exactly that feeling - either encouraging us to have more of it in our lives or to savour and celebrate where it already exists. The eye can move around the paintings with ease, and find plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the "quieter conversations" within in. Coastal colours add to the spacious vibe here. 80 x 80 cm cradled panel - sold unframed but shown here as framed to help you imagine it in your home or office.

After a career in advertising, I went to art college in my mid 40’s, initially for a one year course – a sort of sabbatical - but I couldn’t stop there and I went onto do the BA Embroidery at Manchester School of Art. A delightful ongoing process of finding out who I am and what I love doing, curating my creative practice year by year, painting by painting. My current work has its starting points in the land around me, the wild and open places I run and walk. Working in acrylics, I am responding to the glimpses and glances of the shapes, rocks, contours and the colours of the trails that pass me by and please me. Less of a direct representation and much more of a response to my experience. My process uses sketches, photography, works on paper and through to finished pieces on wooden board and panels.

"Ribbon" Extra-Large Contemporary Landscape Painting By American Martin Hoffman
By Martin Hoffman
Located in Frederiksberg C, DK
Introducing "Ribbon," an extraordinary painting from the "Jersey Meadow Series" by Martin Hoffman in the 1970s. From the 1970s onwards, Hoffman's career showcased a masterful combination of beautiful painting techniques and challenging subject matter. This contemporary painting depicts an abandoned landscape with a hypnotic blue plastic ribbon at its center. Hoffman's landscape creates an almost mesmerizing effect, where the subject matter of destruction and decay is presented poetically. The warm shades of grey with hints of blue, brown, and purple create a limited yet powerful palette that enhances the melancholic beauty of the painting.
The painting measures 151cm x 202cm / 59.5in x 79.5in and is signed 'Martin Hoffman' on the reverse side of the canvas. It is titled 'Ribbon' and is dated '73.' Additionally, the artist specifies that the painting is part of the 'Jersey Meadow Series.' It is ready to hang and comes with a silver-painted frame. The condition of the painting is great, with hardly any signs of wear. The frame has a few scratches but is otherwise in good condition.
Artist Bio:
Martin Hoffman was a versatile artist and illustrator, mostly known for his paintings. He was a self-taught painter and a gifted drummer who had worked as an art director for the Miami News, Graphic Arts Inc., and Steiner & Wall Advertising. In 1973, Martin Hoffman landed his first solo exhibition at the OK Harris...

'Towards Le Scathe Cove'. Contemporary Landscape, Rural, Sea, Ocean, Beach Blue

'Towards Le Scathe Cove'. Contemporary mixed media landscape painting, Cornwall
Original Artwork, Unframed
_________________
January morning, heavy swell and a strong southwester, rain imminent, sheltering beneath lichen furred granite outcrops.
A plein air painting from the series 'Holan ha Dor' (Meaning 'Salt and Earth in Cornish). West Cornwall is a harshly beautiful peninsula, jutting out into the wild tireless ocean, shaped and moulded by powerful salt laden Atlantic winds, and criss-crossed by ancient, tangled hedgerows. Drawn to the immediacy of moments, underpinned by enduring narratives, Sophia's fluid expressive paintings explores the flux and balance in the nature of all things: The freedom of the air and solidity of the soil; Of anchored stone and rhythmic water; Of human narratives written in the wild landscapes; In the sensual interplay of light and shadow. They capture an essence of the equilibrium between wild raw energy and serene stillness; chaos and harmony; and the enduring and the effervescent.

About The Artist
Sophia Milligan is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist, exploring discourses on permanence & evanescence; the eternal, cyclical absolutes of birth & death; motherhood & childhood; and ancient immutable connections. With resonating ripples of intuition and instinct Sophia illuminates the presence of the ordinary, creating moments of sublime present.
'Born among the wild cliffs and tempestuous seas of west Cornwall, I grew with the intimate details in the twisting lanes and the intense changing light throughout the turbulent seasons. I formed a primordial connection with a deep instinctual sense of being part of the natural narrative, and wherever in the world I may be, this connectivity underpins my practice. Like the wind sculpted hawthorns and sensual coves of weather worn granite, I have been shaped by the powerful energy entwined in this ancient raw environment.’
‘We are the stories of the journeys that came before. I weave into my work the tales of transitory circumstance; of struggle and survival; of forms and textures holding records of evolutionary millennia. I paint, I draw: with marks, mixtures, photography, words; the raw earth; the restless oceans; the whispered breeze. I work with time, and the immeasurable spaces of experience within, giving subtleties of existence a pause for contemplation. There is beauty in such poignant breaths. All moments are significant, every pebble of now forms the vast mountain of yesterday, and the great realm of tomorrow's possibilities'.
Sophia has a 1st class honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts and World History, and a Masters Degree in Contemporary Visual Arts. Her work is held in prestigious international private collections, and exhibitions of her interactive, immersive installation, photography and mixed media works include 'Tabula Rasa', London; 'Superlative', Plymouth; 'Transition', Newlyn; The Eden Project, Cornwall; The European Parliament, Brussels; Kew Gardens, London; and 'The Cameraless Film Festival', Chicago...
