Looking Across To Lewis #1 Standing on the Stoer Peninsular in the North West of Scotland and I'm captivated by the ruggedness of the rocks beneath my feet and the expanse across the water to the Outer Hebrides. The near and the far were both calling me. The rocks, the water and the space that opened up across the seas to the islands. I felt invigorated and calm all at the same time Looking Across To Lewis #1. A loose abstract landscape quietly packed with a strong and calm energy. Love it from afar and come up close and rest in the peaceful spaces. Soft palette, of blues, creams and a quietly earthy golden green. Smoothly applied paint to offer minimum texture and maximum peace. Would pair beautifully with its sibling Looking Across To Lewis #2 80 x 80 x 3cm cradled panel. Sold unframed.

After a career in advertising, I went to art college in my mid 40’s, initially for a one year course – a sort of sabbatical - but I couldn’t stop there and I went onto do the BA Embroidery at Manchester School of Art. A delightful ongoing process of finding out who I am and what I love doing, curating my creative practice year by year, painting by painting. My current work has its starting points in the land around me, the wild and open places I run and walk. Working in acrylics, I am responding to the glimpses and glances of the shapes, rocks, contours and the colours of the trails that pass me by and please me. Less of a direct representation and much more of a response to my experience. My process uses sketches, photography, works on paper and through to finished pieces on wooden board and panels.
