Ray of Hope -21st Century, Contemporary, Figurative, Portrait, Woman, African

2025

About the Item

A Ray of Hope is a poignant and luminous fabric collage painting that speaks to the quiet strength found in resilience. Crafted with layers of richly textured fabrics, this piece captures the delicate moment when darkness gives way to light—when, even amid uncertainty, a single thread of hope shines through. It’s quiet, steady, and unwavering—a visual affirmation that even the smallest glimmer of hope can illuminate a path forward. Through this collage, the artist offers more than just a message. They offer a feeling: that no matter where we are in our journey, there is always light ahead. Shipping Procedure Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. About Artist Agwunwa Theophilus Chinonso was born in 1990, He hails from Ejeme Aniorgor, Aniocha South, Delta State, Nigeria. He graduated with a distinction from Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi in Edo State, where he studied Arts and Industrial Design (Painting). His works are an exploration of numerous waste materials, most especially fabric, in the execution of his paintings. He doesn’t simply conceptualize daily activities and human state of mind in his paintings, he transforms waste materials into wealth (beautiful works of art). At a tender age, he discovered his gift as an artist, both visual and performing arts, drawing almost everything he saw around his environment and practising musical instruments as well. Artist Statement As a Nigerian-based artist, I see my art as a form of up-cycling because I transform Ankara fabrics (African prints), both old and new, into beautiful paintings that portray daily activities, love, and a human state of mind. The use of colourful Ankara materials with lovely motifs and patterns characterizes my unique style. Ankara fabric was chosen as my primary medium of expression because of the lovely patterns on it and how it captures the essence of my work. The use of vibrant colours of fabrics in my painting depicts hope as it tends to encourage the viewers to stay focused and that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

YURI MARTINEZ RAMOS "HOME FIRE OIL ON CANVAS, SIGNED CUBAN-AMERICAN, C.2006 20 X 16 INCHES Home Fire" brings me back to my childhood home when my grandpa visited us every day smoking his pipe and conversing good moments. Yuri Martinez Ramos was born in Havana, Cuba on November 24, 1964. He studied at the Elemental School of Plastic Arts from 1975 – 1979 and the National School of the Arts from 1979 – 1983. Martinez’ figurative paintings have been compared to Botero because of his satirical social commentary. His style, however, is uniquely his own with typically vibrant Latin colors and use of expressive magical realism. His paintings tell his story and the story of the Cuban dilemma. Martinez was granted permission by the US Justice Department after much effort with Cuban authorities to come to the US with his family and pursue his career outside Cuba. He now lives and works in Texas. Papillon Gallery...
