About Artist Alabi Azeez is a native of Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. He was born on February 20, 1994. His talent became noticeable while in his primary school. He was raised in Lagos state where he attended his secondary school before gaining entrance into a higher institution. He has had the privilege of working with a great master Kunle Adeyemi at his studio in Mushin Lagos. He studied painting at the Lagos State University Of Science and Technology formerly known as (LASPOTECH) where he obtained a higher national diploma (H.N.D) in 2020 and his final year project (painting)was chosen by the school of art and was gifted to the seated governor of Lagos state for gracing the year's academic graduation. Since then he has been practicing as a full-time studio artist till date. Alabi Azeez works with several mediums and his works are majorly in Oil and Acrylic. Most of his works found its greatest impression when expressing himself on portraiture and human composition which shows an empathy in style with acclaimed realism. A hallmark of his work is the use of African motifs and forms to sensitize his works with beautiful use of Colors and to express his origin as an African Artist. He has participated in several art exhibitions both online and offline in Nigeria. Artist Statement My choice of medium and use of African motifs and forms are influenced by the environment in which I grew up and particularly the overwhelming presence of art in the Yoruba kings' palaces: the carved doors, stools, wall posts, laurel of offices (crown, staff, costume), some of them are narration on social concerns, traditional activities and personal expression on cultural freedom by individual artists. Apart from inculcating these symbols and motifs and incorporating new contemporary details, I also try to simplify the subjects from the objects. This simplicity in composition gives room to the visual communication of issues such as character, tribal identity, and historical documentation
