About the Item
If you have an association with dance, yoga or working out, this unusual modernist painting might be an interesting addition to your space. Artist Albert Michini used several models to compose this “workout portrait” back in the 1970’s. The four figures are in various positions that reflect dance, ballet and stylish modeling. The time period is well represented with numerous bright patterns and colors filling in the background. These patterns tend to give the piece a “groovy” feel, that was certainly popular at the time.
Albert Michini was born in Philadelphia in 1925. After serving in the Second World War he studied art back in Philadelphia. He moved his family to Connecticut in the 1960’s to teach at the Famous Art School, a correspondence art education studio that was founded by Norman Rockwell and Albert Dorne. In 1976, he moved back to Pennsylvania to take a sculptor’s position at the Franklin Mint. He also worked for the US military, painting new airplane designs that were being developed and introduced to our fleet. The most admirable of the many qualities of his paintings is their realism, with attention to details. As an illustrator for many years, his paintings have been featured in many publications, just as Norman Rockwell’s had. Albert Michini died in 1994.
This particular work of his dates to the early 1970’s. It is oil on board and is in fairly good condition, with only a few very minor abrasions and touch ups, mostly on the far right side. It is signed lower right and inscribed on the reverse. It is framed in a modernist frame from the period. The overall framed dimensions are 16 1/2” x 31 1/2”. This work by a noted American illustration artist could bring an added touch to your home or workout space. It is ready to hang and enjoy.

View AllStylish Hawaiian Luau Oil Painting by Listed artist Mario Larrinaga (1895-1979)
Located in Baltimore, MD
Mario Larrinaga was born in Baja California in 1895 and moved with his brother to Los Angeles in 1909. He had no formal training in art, but had natural talent that was noticed by local movie studios. He was hired by Universal Studios as a designer, art director and creator of background scenes. He produced some of the background effects for King Kong in 1933. After a career in set design and illustration he focused on painting for pleasure in California, Mexico and Hawaii. He belonged to local art clubs and exhibited his works often.
This stylized modernist work was likely created around 1960. It is oil on wood panel and of a horizontal format, 18” x 36”. It portrays a procession of seemingly Hawaiian natives...

Fine Impressionist American School Oil on Canvas; Family Picnic or Outing, 1925
Located in Baltimore, MD
This lovely impressionist painting portrays what appears to be a family outing or picnic. There are many beautifully dressed women with their children in a park setting. Oddly, what appears to be missing are men, or their husbands. Perhaps it’s a women’s organization that included their young children. The scene must depict late spring or summer, given the foliage and their beautiful dresses. The colors are bright and cheerful and the late impressionist style is clearly evident. The artist appears to have signed the painting lower left, but it is very difficult to completely decipher. The date, 1925, seems to be clearer. All in all, this work is a one-of-a-kind period painting that will enhance any sophisticated room or setting. The frame is a soft lemon gold period cove frame that may be just a bit older than the work by about 10 years. This work has been recently professionally repaired, cleaned and varnished.
Both the painting and the frame are in very good condition. There are a few professional repairs to the canvas, only visible from the patches shown on the backside. The frame has a few minor blemishes here and there, expected with its age. The canvas measures 18” x 22” and the overall framed dimensions are 24 1/2” x 28 1/2”. Visible on the reverse side is a vintage label that reads “Art...
