About the Item

Anna Sobkowiak is a painter and 2D animator living and working in Poznan, Poland. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under the International Student Exchange Scholarship. She has exhibited in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and the UK, for instance, in Starter Gallery and Leto Gallery. After studies she was associated with Poznan Nowa Gallery and was a laureate of the ‘Salted Candy 2010’ competition. Nowdays she also participates in online international art exhibitions, such as ‘Together/Somewhere’ organised by Visionary Projects and Art City Works. Since 2022 she has been a member of London Paint Club. Her incessant inspiration are great works of David Hockney, Edward Hopper and Claude Monet. What she finds mesmerizing in their works are the afirmation of life (Hockey), the intensity of the moment (Hopper) and vibrant colours (Monet). Her pictures depict mainly young people in highly ambiguous spaces and situations, which creates an atmosphere full of engagement, inner strength and passion. Presented work belongs to series 'Exit' which refers to adolescence. It depicts three young girls covered with a carpet hanging on a carpet hanger. They keep closely together and do not let adults into their private world though. They have their own teenage secrets and don't want to be children anymore. Keywords: colourful, vivid colours, girls, children, community, figurative, secret, flowers, melancholic-emotional realism
