About the Item

"Œil de Velour" is a deeply expressive dog portrait that displays a combination of lively brushwork, layered textures, and emotional insight. Recognized for giving animals a important human-like feeling, I tried to depict a long-haired dachshund, not just as a loved pet, but as a thoughtful, soulful figure This artwork uses oil, acrylic paint and ink layered over a collage of printed texts, which is recycled book pages. The textual background provides a subtle yet textured base, hinting that every surface like, every life has a history beneath. The paint is applied with a lively and energetic style: wide brushstrokes depict the rich texture of fur, while dripped pigments inject vitality into the piece, creating a balance between the energetic surface and the calm, contemplative expression of the subject. The background, painted in a subdued bluish-gray tone with touches of turquoise and ink spatters, adds a modern visual flow, contrasting the gentle realism of the dog. ⭐Subject and Composition⭐ The focal point is a long-haired dachshund, depicted in a three-quarter profile, its body gently curled, eyes looking toward something outside the scene. There is elegance in its stance and a soft dignity in its expression. I encourages the viewer to see something quietly human in the dog’s gaze, remembrance, or the subtle flow of time. The ears, richly detailed in flowing black, are given as much care as the soulful brown eyes. The careful depiction of the fur contrasts with the expressive, nearly abstracted background, making the figure stand out as the emotional heart of the artwork. ⭐Color Palette:⭐ The palette employs warm, earthy tones—rusty oranges, burnt siennas, and deep blacks—that shape the dog’s form, while the background remains cool and neutral. This contrast between warm and cool colors emphasizes the emotional depth of the creature. The eyes, sharply outlined and filled with subtle emphasizes, draw the viewer inward; they are the painting’s emotional anchor. Turquoise splashes and smudges introduce a chromatic disruption, modernizing the composition and adding a signature. ⭐Symbolism and Emotional Depth⭐ The dachshund’s gaze appears contemplative almost philosophical. It seems to carry the wisdom of stillness, quietly observing the world. In this sense, the dog becomes a symbol of reflection, loyalty, and the beauty of quiet presence. The background, faintly visible beneath layers of paint, hints at memory, storytelling, and perhaps forgotten voices. The text rests like background noise or subconscious thought, enriching the emotional complexity of the piece. “Dachshund in Thought” is a poetic and reflective work that transcends traditional animal portraiture. Through expressive brushwork, textured collage, and an intense gaze, the artwork encourages viewers to slow down and simply feel. In a world filled with noise and spectacle, this portrait reminds us of the quiet poetry found in attentive observation of animals, art, or ourselves. ⏩Technique: oil, acrylic, glue, ink on old book pages on wooden frame 40x40cm ■■ 15,7 x15,7inch⏪ ⭐Sustainability⭐: Wooden frame is made by the artist by recycling old books. My work focuses on oxidized images from the collective memory of the 20th century. According to Aristotle, from memory to reminiscence, it is necessary to reactivate images through the imagination to know their sensitive power. Consequently, the gaze (of portraits) becomes power, texture becomes light. Finally, this transposition of images becomes my individual memory. At the Concept store in La Baule - FRANCE
