About the Item
"Girl in the Fountain" Nothing is so joyful as a young
girl splashing in a fountain, loving the spray yet ducking it at the same
time. As the child kicks her way in the pool, her legs are engulfed in
water and she is drenched from above. What a wonderful way to beat the heat
on a summer's day.
Artist Carole Garland who is known for her beach scenes and figure work
paints the young girl with an emphasis on her movement through the water.
She simplifies and abstracts the background to place the focus on the child
in motion.
This 12"x12" painting is wired for ease of hanging. It is an oil on canvas,
with harmonious painted gallery-
wrapped sides.
Artist Carole Garland has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the
University of the Americas in Mexico City. She has participated in art
workshops in France and Mexico and her most recent influence is
fine artist David Gallup, former vice-president of the California Art Club.
She has been painting in oils for over twenty years.
Garland is in art collections throughout the U.S. and has shown in venues
all over the Southern California area. Her most recent exhibits include,
DeFrenS Gallery, West Lake Village; Gallery of Hermosa, Hermosa Beach;
Topanga Art Gallery; Santa Paula Art Museum; Kathryne Designs, Montecito;
and individual shows at TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station, Santa Monica, and
many more.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.

Depicts Carole Garland reveling in a hot summer day at the Venice Beach. Colorful beach umbrellas shield the timid from the burning sun while sunbathers bask in the searing heat. Yellow and blue ribbons floating on the wind celebrate Venice’s chaos and its whimsy.
To focus the figure of a preteen who stands sentinel, Garland fades out the foreground sunbather on right and obfuscates the crouching man on left. The artist leads us to the groups of mysterious standing and sitting figures in the shadows and beyond. Garland’s collection of figurative work speaks to a contemporary sensibility in her approach to painting, while expressing a curiosity about the human form and an irrepressible concern for the human spirit.
