About the Item
Painting by French artist Christian Zeimert (b.1934 – 2020). Signed in lower right corner and titled on reverse "Gentilly".
Zeimert's painted slow and meticulously. It took him several months to complete a painting. His paintings are built around puns, they always evoke the childhood of games (confetti, cube games, meccano, etc.) but what makes them strong is their pictorial appeal and humor. Christian Zeimert works are in various museum collections including the the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Christian Zeimert was born in Paris. He worked and lived in Vernon. As a child he knew he would become a painter. Son of an artist-upholsterer-draftsman, he graduated from the Ecole Boulle, trained in jewelry engraving. He took several course at the Decorative Arts School in Paris with the painter Gromaire. A libertarian and an anarchist, in the '60s he was part of the Panique group, with Fernando Arrabal, Alexandro Jodorowsky, Olivier O. Olivier, Roland Topor, Michel Parré. He published in the magazine Le Fou Parle (The Fool Speaks) (1977-1984), as well as in Hara-Kiri . For three years, Christian Zeimert presented an artistic show on Radio Libertaire, with Jacques Vallet (writer and creator of the magazine Le Fou Parle). He is one of the "Papous" of the Radio France Culture show "Des Papus dans la tête", conceived by Bertrand Jérôme and presented by Françoise Treussard. He calls himself a "calembourgeois painter".
