Modern Cubist inspired portrait painting by the iconic Houston based artist David Adickes. The work features a pair of elegantly dressed women. One is standing and wearing a multicolored dress and the other is seated and dressed in light blue stripes. Signed in the front lower right corner. Retains original David Adickes Studio label on the reverse. Currently hung in a silver frame.

Artist Biography: Born (1927) and raised in Huntsville, TX, David Adickes is an artist whose art and heart are closely aligned with Paris, France. After studying art at the Atelier F. Leger in the late 40s, Adickes burst onto the art scene in Houston and elsewhere in the early 50s and has been a prominent member of Houston’s art community ever since. While his most visible works are his giant sculptures, from the Virtuoso in downtown Houston to the 76-foot Sam Houston in his hometown of Huntsville, David Adickes has for decades produced paintings that have been acclaimed in numerous art exhibitions and galleries, both in the United States and internationally. Moreover, his paintings continue to delight collectors with a distinct blend of classic style, a delightful palette, and a touch of whimsy.

David Adickes was born in Huntsville, Texas in 1927 and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1943. Nearing the end of World War II, at age 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force and regularly traveled to France. “I always liked art and was always drawing in the margins of my book,” Adickes said. “But being in Paris where there are galleries and museums on every corner — as just a small town kid from Huntsville, Texas — that was my turning point.” After completing his service, Adickes returned to Huntsville and earned his bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He then studied art with artist Fernand Leger in France for two years before moving to Houston to open his own art school.
