An innate and atypical landscape artist, Eric Pérez is an intellectual who paints. He knows and loves Mexican and world history, from which he derives his contemporary context. His paintings are an amalgamation of classical themes, playful locations, perspectives and approaches linked to Romanticism and the natural world. Nonetheless, his approach resides in scenic symbols charged with content that ranges from the emotional, experiential, and dreamlike to the strictly intellectual.
A natural-born and atypical landscape artist, Eric Pérez is an intellectual who paints. He knows and loves Mexican and world history, from which he derives the
contemporary context. His approach resides in scenic symbols, such of the Lake of Tenochitlán as we see in this painting, Tenayuca, with details such as the light in the
cigar or the small Aztec person in a canoe. In the background, we see urban Mexico City, with marginal homes on the hill side and the antennas of television stations in
the distance.
Pérez is Adquisition Prize of the Tamayo Museum Bienal. He has exhibited in the Tamayo and El Palacio de Bellas Artes Museums in Mexico City; the Contemporary Art Museums of Yucatán, Querétaro and Torreón in Mexico; The Fine Arts Center, Colorado Springs, CO.; and Hangar-7, Salzburg, Austria.
