Erwin Wending (Germany, 1900 – United States, 1993)
Born in Freiberg. In 1937, following the completion of his studies at the Dresden Art Academy, he immigrated to the Land of Israel. In 1939, he traveled to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Following the German occupation in June 1940, he fled to London, where he received a grant to study at the St. Martin’s School of Art. In 1947, he immigrated to New York, where he remained for the rest of his life. Paintings by this Israeli-American artist have been widely exhibited in England and the United States, and his work is included in the collection of Yad Vashem, Israel's official museum of the Holocaust.
