In The Visit, Fanni Kopacsi reimagines the 16th-century painting The Visitation by Jakob and/or Hans Strüb through a raw and deeply tactile contemporary lens. Created using recycled fabric, acrylic, and spray paint, the piece breaks the boundary between painting and sculpture—inviting a physical and emotional encounter with the sacred subject matter.
The figures emerge from the canvas as sculptural forms, draped in distressed textiles that echo the folds of Renaissance robes while suggesting decay, memory, and resilience. The gold-toned background and ornamental motifs nod to ecclesiastical iconography, yet the surface bears marks of time and transformation—an intentional contrast between reverence and ruin.
Awarded First Prize at Versiona Thyssen XV by the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid (2022), The Visit stands as a powerful commentary on spiritual connection, femininity, and the endurance of classical imagery in the language of reclaimed materials.

Fanni Kopacsi is a contemporary visual artist born in Hungary in 1991, currently based in Barcelona, Spain. She studied fine arts at the Secondary School of Visual Arts in Budapest, Hungary. Her works
are both an introspection and a reflection on human behaviour, sociocultural issues and the ecological
crisis, raising questions from a critical position. Fanni's practice, although based on painting, has
expanded beyond the limits of the medium and includes a wide range of materials, such as textile,
plastic and electronic waste. Her works have been exhibited in Hungary, the United Kingdom and
Spain.
