About the Item

The exquisite still life can be paired with another still life with peaches (symbolising spring and autumn) also published on 1stdibs. Gianluca Corona expresses the values of the most exquisite tradition of Italian Renaissance painting with a contemporary, up-to-date style. His artworks are extremely refined and suitable for every style of interior design. His sensibility and professionalism have allowed him to enter the most significant private collections in Italy, Europe and overseas. The painter was trained by the main Italian painter who used the classical method of oil painting: Donizetti. A method that has shown its longevity. The painter works from life, placing his protagonists in front of the easel, a method that allows him to give three-dimensionality and veracity to everything he paints. Gianluca Corona is a still-life and portraiture contemporary Italian painter who looks for the inner truth of what he paints. His beautiful fruits, flowers, vegetables, and food subjects are appreciated because of his technical expertise, his well-thought compositions, and the exceptional treatment of light, giving the painting a modern gaze and beauty.
Interestingly he is an equally skilled drawer and painter.  The quality of his oil paintings has been recognized internationally and most of his artworks belong in private collections we can see permanently some of his paintings in The Bank Collection, the most significant Italian institutional figurative art collection, Bassano del Grappa, Italy.
His portraits and their quality are the result of the profound personal investment he makes to see and reveal the beauty and grace that lies within each person.  Gianluca Corona benefits from the technical skill and material knowledge of the old masters to present a new gaze and vision of still-life paintings. He adheres to the canons of the new realism aimed at establishing the importance of figuration in contemporary art. The artist is therefore able to combine traditional materials and techniques with a contemporary fresh and unique interpretation of his subjects, as such, he is one of the most popular contemporary Italian painters in the realistic style. His works are represented worldwide by Salamon Fine Art, an art gallery in Milan. Biography: Gianluca Corona was born in Milan, the city where he still lives and works, in 1969 and graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in 1991. From ‘94 to ’96 he further trained as an apprentice in the studio of Mario Donizetti in Bergamo. Following his studies, he started his professional career, establishing himself on the artistic scene as a leading figure of the young Italian figurative art movement. He has held several exhibitions in Italy and abroad and his works are present in public as well as private collections. Furthermore, his paintings are continuously used by the record company Musicmedia to illustrate the covers of their CDs. His works have been praised by some of the most important Italian critics, such as Alberto Agazzani, Franco Basile, Graziano Campanini, Vladek Cwalinski, Carlo Franza, Gilberto Grilli, Gianfranco Lelj, Mario Marcarini, Pietro C. Marani, Alessandro Riva, and Maurizio Sciaccaluga.

Apples and Glass, super real, illustionistic, colorful contemporary still life
By Douglas Newton
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Oil paint on canvas Doug Newton’s hyper-real paintings observe reality, explore translucency, reflections and luminosity, and dazzle the viewer with all the ways light can transform our perceptions. His subject matter concentrates on still lives of food, toys, candy and household objects. In addition to many group shows across the country, Mr. Newton’s show, “HARD CANDY and other confections” represents his fifth solo exhibition. His paintings have been collected in numerous private collections. Mr. Newton resides in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Sonia Coman writes in her essay, Doug Newton’s hard candy: the confection of painting Doug Newton’s paintings are about… painting. The hyperrealist technique of trompe l’oeil or “trick the eye” is knowingly playful. It simultaneously calls attention to the illusion of a different material—for example, translucent candy wrappers—and the reality of the layers of paint, masterfully applied to the canvas. In that, Newton’s paintings pay homage to an esteemed series of trompe l’oeil masters, from Inquisition-era Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán to Gilded-Age American painter William Michael Harnett...
