About the Item
Pool #35 by California artist Jeffrey Palladini is a minimalist figurative painting. It is Oil and Charcoal on Wood Panel. It is 24x36. With the wood frame, it is 25x37. It is a female figure lying on her stomach in a lounge chair near a pool.
Jeffrey Palladini’s unconventional portraits evoke feelings of sensuality and euphoria. While the San Francisco-based artist studied at California State University, it was in Florence that his true creative spirit was pulled forth from the beauty that surrounded him.
Now his modern figure paintings breathe life with vibrant colors and flowing brush strokes. Unlike many portrait paintings, Palladini minimizes the amount of detail and information allowing the viewer to gain intense suggestions of emotions in an instant. The simplicity is reminiscent of Alex Katz. “As in memory, all is viewed in snapshots, in glimpses. Complex narratives, transformative events, entire lifetimes, boiled down to these singular points in time.”
Palladini's artwork have been exhibited in galleries worldwide and are in public and private collections in the US and Internationally including the Four Season Hotel. In 2012, Asterisk SF Magazine's Art & Design Issue named him one of San Francisco's top 20 artists.

Jeffrey Palladini
Artist Jeffrey Palladini was born in the Chicago area, and grew up in Southern California. He studied Art at California State University, Long Beach, where he explored a wide variety of media, eventually gravitating toward drawing and painting. It wasn't until his studies in Florence, Italy in 1989 that he began to form a consistent creative voice. The ubiquitous beauty of art in everyday life in Italy had a profound effect on the young artist, and he began to experiment with combining the found objects and classical figurative imagery he found everywhere around him. From that time, Palladini has considered canvas simply too passive, and has continued to employ wood and alternate materials almost exclusively as the ground for his paintings. In 1991, Palladini relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lives and works along with his wife and daughter. Palladini has exhibited his work around the U.S. and the world for nearly 30 years. His work is included in numerous private and corporate collections. Most recently, Palladini was honored with an SFMOMA SECA Award nomination, and was named one of San Francisco's Top 20 Artists by Asterisk magazine.

Biography:
Dan May is an American painter and printmaker born on March 11, 1955 in San Francisco, CA. Raised in aesthetic surroundings heavily influenced by his architect father, May grew up learning to view all things with an eye for design, color, and shape. At age 5, he remembers his father cutting up a book of drawings by Henri Matisse and hanging them on the walls of their home. The French master Matisse as well as Richard Diebenkorn and David Hockney are his favorite art influences. He began his first attempts at painting at age 15, and later began to experiment with printmaking, teaching himself various techniques such as woodblock printing, etching, silkscreen printing, and monoprinting.
Monoprinting soon became May's medium of choice due to its wide range of expression and spontaneity that he felt other techniques lacked. May - "With monoprinting, you can only work a piece for as a long as the paint stays wet, so the resulting print has a feeling of movement and immediacy. I also like how monoprinting allows the brush strokes to transfer a transparent light quality to the print. For me, this is a technique that bridges drawing...
