ABOUT THE ARTIST
Joan Abelló Prat (Barcelona, 1922 – Mollet del Vallès, 2008) was a Catalan painter, collector, and patron of the arts. Trained at the Escola de Belles Arts in Barcelona, his work reveals influences from Modernism, Fauvism, and Expressionist traditions. Abelló developed a distinctive style characterized by gestural brushwork, vibrant color, and a clear celebration of Mediterranean life.
He was also an important art collector, and his personal collection became the foundation of the Museu Abelló in Mollet del Vallès, inaugurated in 1999. His figure is essential to understanding 20th-century Catalan painting.
