About the Item

Kamal Mitra - Untitled - 21.2 x 14 inches (unframed size) A/P Etching and Lithograph on paper. Inclusive of shipment in ready to hang condition. About Kamal Mitra’s Works : While pursuing his Bachelors (Painting) at the Govt. College of Art & Craft, Mitra simultaneously was very interested in printmaking. Abundantly curious he wanted to develop himself as a graphic artist too. Kamal’s works are preoccupied with addressing the agonies and depressions of the human mind. He feels that a common destiny that people seem to share is the extreme hardships and ups and downs that inevitably dominate each one of our lives and perhaps the only common destiny that people share today. Athough highly influenced by the Expressionist movement of the west, Kamal has never been one to portray sentimental exaggerations. In fact, Mitra Says his search is towards a more expressive anatomy. In his paintings and etchings, Mitra gives equal importance to the content of his work as well as its pictorial /visual and tactile influences on people. Although he believes strongly in his content, which he wishes to convey, he is never rigid about content alone. He gives equal preference to the content and pictorial / visual aspect, as he believes that unless the image making is perfect, the representational image of the theme will be a complete failure. How he works : Mitra most definitely builds his works with a preconceived image in his mind composed appropriately to bring forth the concept as well as great visual appeal. The figures of men women & children in his works have a definite attitude as well as positioning. Mitra derives pleasure from creating an intense tension through the attitude and positioning of the subjects. The Body plays the main expressive medium. A Torso or simply the back, hands, toes, the intricacy of the veins on their bodies are modes through which Mitra tries to bring forth tension and pressure in the daily life of a human being. Mitra has been specially influenced by artists like Egon Schiele, Kathe Kollwitch, Gustav Klimt who successfully used the body in their carefully balanced compositions. Through both his paintings & graphics Mitra brings forth and searches for a more expressive anatomy. About the Artist & his works : Born : 1964 in Kolkata. By Sanatan Dinda
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Sanatan Dinda - Nude Woman - 28 x 20 inches (unframed size) Pastel on Paper, 2010 shipment without frame Style : Sanatan Dinda discovers the beautiful amidst the ruins of a dilapidated city; his work becomes lyrical while he puts his signature on the curves and cleavages of sculpted human bodies. Born in the intestines of North Kolkata, the lanes and by lanes of Kumartuli, the squalor and the dirt, the refinement and nuances of a traditional craft of idol-making, the ancient river, the lonely bathing places taught him everything. Poverty all around, Sanatan had enough courage, even in his formative years, to convince himself that eternity could be invented, here and now, in a day. His art, both sculpture and painting, engages in a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Today, his work can be considered to be a prime example of contemporary Bengali visual culture. For last few years, Sanatan has been trying to stress upon traditional clay-sculpting – primarily the local popular sculpture...

Acrylic painting on paper Unique work Hand-signed by the artist lower right THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS OF MOHAMMAD ARIYAEI " Gentleness and oriental wisdom follow the supercharged bubbling to which we were accustomed from the previous deliberately art brut exhibition by Mohammad ARIYAEI. The Iranian painter's imagination moves serenely from the wildest frenzy to the meditative calm of great, fabulous stories. The artist then took pleasure in pouring the volcanic torrent of his barbaric figures onto the delicate latticework with which he is accustomed to lining his backgrounds with the patience of an illuminating monk. Already sweetness and paroxysm coexisted. Now gentleness wins. The trained imagination of the painter, yet spontaneously bubbling, by instinct as much as by erudition, has no difficulty in reconnecting with the abundant oriental tradition of the thousand and one nights, which, like a long underground river, resurfaces at the light of his painting. Spring renewal of traditions still alive. Systematic filling of space, a sort of oriental version of the Riches Heures...
