About the Item

Acrylic on canvas In a small, picturesque village, there lived a middle-aged woman who sold traditional herbal drinks, known as jamu. Every morning, before the sun greeted the earth, she was already busy in her kitchen, preparing various kinds of jamu. With skillful hands, she carefully mixed turmeric, ginger, temulawak, and other spices with great precision. For her, jamu was not just a herbal drink but a legacy from her ancestors that needed to be preserved. Draped in batik cloth and with a shawl over her shoulder, she carried bottles of jamu in a woven basket that always accompanied her. She walked along the village roads, offering her jamu to loyal customers. "Healthy jamu, fresh jamu!" she called out in a warm voice. Her customers welcomed her with warm smiles. There was Dwi, who always bought beras kencur jamu to maintain his stamina, Bu Rini, who loved kunyit asam to keep her body fit, and Mbak Lestari, who regularly drank bitter jamu to stay healthy. Every sip of jamu brought warmth and well-being to their bodies. The perseverance of this jamu seller taught many in the village the importance of preserving traditions and never giving up in the face of challenges. Over time, her jamu became more well-known, and even young people started to take an interest in drinking it. Behind her simplicity, the jamu seller was a strong woman, safeguarding cultural heritage and bringing health to many. With her warm smile, she kept moving forward, carrying warmth in every sip of her jamu. Kusbudiyanto is an Indonesian artist born in 1969 who lives & works in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. He started his artistic career in working for a company engaged in the export of crafts and assisting artisans. His job was product development and craft design. Learning from making designs to crafts helps him in continuing his hobby of painting. He was asked by this company to take part in working in design in the Philippines in 1996 and in the Netherlands in 2000. At the beginning of 2016 he learned to paint with canvas. He tried to paint with many themes such as the tradition of Satu Suro, Keris and other themes such as shadow puppet performances. These works were purchased by Mr. Seno Samudro who is the head of the Boyolali area in 2017. In 2018, he took part in the exhibition for the first time in Yogyakarta at Nandur Srawung, the participants were painters and sculptors throughout Indonesia, then Budaya Yogyakarta in 2019, Singapore in 2020 and many others exhibitions later. This painting tells the story of a father and his son who live near the forest. Their life is very simple every day, just farming and occasionally looking for fruit, honey which can be sold to the city and looking for dry tree branches which they use as fuel for cooking and some of which they sell to the city. They really love their life living in a village near the forest far from the city, they are very familiar with the path in the middle of the forest which they pass every day to look for fruit and twigs. And they really care about the animals that live in the forest, they don't like hunting animals, in fact they really care for and maintain life in the forest by not destroying the forest. Because by protecting the forest, life in the village is well maintained. Water sources are maintained and village people use water for farming and other basic needs such as cooking, bathing and so on. By protecting the forest, the beauty and diversity of living creatures living in the forest can be maintained and provide benefits for everyone.
