About the Item

Linda Stein, Profile Landscape 438.022 - Signed Feminist LGBTQ+ Colorful Acrylic on Board Painting Profile Landscape 438.022 is from Linda Stein's Profiles series--drawings, collages and paintings of facial profiles she made in the 1960s and 1970s when she was coming to terms with her sexuality. These facial profiles all start below the eyes, reflecting her need as a youth to avoid being "seen" because she felt different at a time when homosexuality was considered anathema. Stein's works are in more than 25 museum permanent collections, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Georgia Museum of Art, and Ringling Museum of Art in the US; Victoria Gallery & Museum and Manchester Art Gallery in the UK; Espoo Museum of Modern Art in Finland; and Konstmuseet i Skövde in Sweden.
