Metra Mitchell holds a BFA in Painting and minor in Art History from Western Kentucky University and an MFA in Painting from Fontbonne University. She has taught studio and art history courses at many institutions for nearly two decades such as Maryville University, St. Louis Community College, St. Charles Community College & Southwestern Illinois College. In her series Shadow Drama, archetypal characters appear in many guises within staged theatrical environments. The work is an investigation of polarities between vulnerability and control, revealing and concealing patterns, and the juncture between composure and confusion.
