About the Item

"Currency #266" by Natasha Lelenco presents a monochromatic blue female profile on a muted greenish-grey background, rendered in acrylic on a circular wooden panel measuring 26 cm in diameter. Surrounding the figure is an inscription in Galician: “Seguimos adiante, imperfectas pero imparables” (“We keep going, imperfect but unstoppable”), a phrase that emphasizes collective strength, vulnerability and the ongoing negotiation of identity—particularly within the context of migration and gendered experience. Part of the artist’s ongoing Currencies series, the piece subverts the conventional function of the coin by replacing national emblems with anonymous, emotionally charged portraits. The face, detailed and serene, is painted with fine textural waves and sculptural clarity, suggesting memory, continuity, and quiet resistance. The minimalist palette reinforces the visual unity of the work, while the text introduces rhythm and movement within the static, medallion-like format. Each coin in this series carries a unique, arbitrarily assigned value—fixed and certified on the reverse. This conceptual gesture draws attention to how individuals are unequally valued across borders and within societies, independent of their lived experience or contribution. Works from the Currencies series can be installed individually or in larger constellations, adapting to a range of contexts from domestic to institutional. Their compact format and flat surface make them ideal for modular or grid-based displays. The artist offers commissions for site-specific versions and currently holds a substantial number of works in stock. If you're interested in assembling multiple pieces or developing a curated installation, we welcome inquiries and offer tailored pricing for collectors and curators. As an additional conceptual gesture, collectors are invited to exchange the certified value of the artist’s share from any sale for a future work of her authorship. Although more than 200 pieces have been placed in collections, this option remains unclaimed—an open proposition embedded within the logic of the series. At Casa das Peritas Gallery, we operate globally with the same attention and proximity we extend to our local neighbors. We oversee every detail and guide you through the purchase process with the utmost professionalism, ensuring complete satisfaction for each client, whom we regard as valued members of our community. As a small, specialist gallery driven by a deep commitment to art, we carefully select every artist and artwork, presenting our curated collection to an international audience from our corner of the Galician coast. Read our clients’ testimonials and join the discerning collectors who trust our expertise.
