About the Item
The painting “Light Bearer” is a representation of a young lady’s journey to discover her true self amidst challenges of lust, feeling lost, and moments of contemplation. The inspiration behind this piece is the theme of discovery - a young lady navigating a world that is hostile towards feminine individuals. The figure exudes strength, determination, hope, guidance, and the pursuit of knowledge in a world hostile to femininity. The colour choice in this piece and the symbolism of a lighted candle represent inner light, spirituality, and quiet strength in solitude. The open part of the figure's body signifies the vulnerabilities she wants to overcome. The painting’s message is to encourage perseverance, reflection, and finding strength in moments of introspection, illuminated by the presence of a flickering candle flame.

Artist Statement
The ideas, issues and events arising from man's quest to contain and contend with these forces form the subject of my paintings. Given this background, my paintings are subtle but much defined with interlocking and wedges of colour combined like a mosaic to produce a solid, architectural structure, enhanced by the textured surface of the paint with women accorded with prominent attention, focus and more emphasis in my composition.
Women live in a male-dominated society, based on local cultural traditions with few rights and are at the receiving end of men's activities and yet strive to eke out and sustain living.
I celebrate them by weaving my composition around them during their hours of need, joy, pain, and other human activities.
