About the Item
Pitanius
BIO: Pitanius was born in 1986 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Pitanius’s artistic journey has been one of constant evolution and exploration. From teaching and theater work to international exhibitions, each experience has enriched her craft. Living in New York has provided a dynamic environment where she continue to create and share her unique perspective through art. Pitanius graduated in 2008 from State Academy of Arts in Tbilisi, Georgia with a diploma work titled “Immortal Mohegan,” inspired by her admiration for Native American culture. This work gained significant publicity and media coverage. Later that year, she traveled to Marrakech, Morocco, for pottery training, where she learned native clay techniques and held a small exhibition. In 2009, Pitanius worked at an art gallery in Amsterdam, preparing for the exhibition “Dionaea Muscipula,” using oil and acrylic on cardboard. After returning to Tbilisi, she found that her artistic expression had shifted; Pitanius moved from using colors to working with ink. She developed a deep love for drawing ornaments, using Japanese ink and a fountain pen to create intricate, narrative-rich compositions. Exhibitions and Move to New York: In 2012, Pitanius participated in the group exhibition “Dual Verse” at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia. After a short visit to New York, she decided to move there permanently in 2015, drawn by the city's vibrant art scene. In July 2021, Pitanius participated in the London Art Biennale. Later that year, she was part of the group exhibition “Universal Language IV” presented by Gabriel Fine Arts in London. In December 2021, Pitanius exhibited at the Red Dot Miami Art Fair. The following year, in 2022, she participated in the Superfine Art Fair in New York. In January 2023, Pitanius exhibited at the Piano Craft Gallery in Boston in the group show "What's Going On." Artist Statement: My artworks are a reflection of my visions, dreams, and the reality I perceive. Each piece is an emotional and personal journey, evolving with different periods of my life. The ornaments I draw serve as my language, allowing me to communicate complex stories and emotions without words. Using Japanese ink and a fountain pen allows me to control the thickness of each line, adding depth and precision to my work.
