A Cowboy And His Horse - Gouache On Paper
Gouache on paper painting depicting a cowboy and his horse by a campfire by Reinaldo Manzke (Brazilian, 1906-1980). A cowboy is seen sitting by a fire while his horse stands to the right of him. Oranges and yellows make up the vibrant campfire, while nightfall comes about. The sky is a deep blue, with purple mountains in the background, and surrounding deep green grasslands.
Signed "Manzke" lower right.

Reinaldo Manzke was born in Santa Catarina, Brazil in 1906. He was a well known Brazilian artist, who received many awards for his work. His first training as an artist was in the convent of Saint Antonio in Blumenau, under professor of drawing and painting Frei Genésio Hansen O.F.M. He later studied in São Paulo and Rio De Janeiro, dedicating himself especially to the medium of watercolor. His first individual exposition was in São Paulo, in 1939, repeating in 1945/46/48. He was awarded prizes by the National Museum of Fine Arts of Rio De Janeiro and by the government of São Paulo. He is mentioned in Painters of Brazil by Teodoro Braga and Davenport's Art Reference.
