About the Item

Infinity Cartoon, Original Contemporary Surrealist Figurative Portrait Painting 44" x 32" x 1.5" (HxWxD) Oil, Acrylic, Flashe, Thread, and Print on Canvas This mixed media portrait by artist Sarah Jacobs features a woman with colorful pink hair wearing a cerulean blue sequined shirt. She is grinning and looking up with her. left hand outstretched as if to catch something raining down above her. The figure's realist style is contrasted against the cartoon-like patterning in blue and red that surrounds her. This floral element is both a background, but also encroaches in front of the subject, immersing her in this fantastical flower-patterned world. This style is very reminiscent of the works by contemporary portrait painter Kehinde Wiley. Artist Commentary: Stephanie, the portrait subject, is very into fashion, so I incorporated real thread into her black shirt. She loves to wear bright colors against black backgrounds, so I put her into an environment where she is surrounded by such patterns! About the Artist: Sarah Jacobs is a contemporary artist. Her work has been exhibited in the US and in Europe and she has taken part in artist residencies in Grimma, Germany, Cali, Colombia, and Taos, New Mexico. She has won multiple grants, including the Arts Council England Grant, and her work can be found in public and private collections in the US, UK, and Hong Kong. She has had solo and two person exhibitions in New York City, London, Wrocław, Poland and Bristol, England, among other cities. Born in 1984, Jacobs was raised in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. She was educated in Art History at Gettysburg College and received her MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 2010. There she studied under Joyce Kozloff and Timothy App. Jacobs moved back to the USA in 2014 after 3 years living in London and Bristol, UK where she became a naturalized British citizen.
