About the Item

"The Cape" original oil on canvas painting by Steve McElroy, 2024. Positive depictions of women are a favorite in any decor. 24 x 36 inches. This is the original! Beautiful archival quality limited edition of 50 hand signed prints of this artwork are available. The perfect gift! I'm so excited to be a part of the !stDibs platform. The treasure hunt here is amazing, so I hope you feel my passion for quality and love of process in my own work. I use only the finest materials and never repeat a subject, so you know that you're purchasing a one of a kind created entirely by hand. I use only Old Holland paints, which are made by hand with natural pigments and have been around since Van Gogh's era. They are still the best quality today, with vivid natural pigments that retain their beauty. I use only fine art canvases and panels, or fine handmade French papers for museum-grade archival. I never compromise on quality, and you'll notice it the minute you open the shipping box. For this reason, many of my collectors have purchased over 20 original works each, and counting. I would be so honored to work with you and your clients. I have been fortunate to have been embraced by authors and art enthusiasts over the years. You may read many articles online about my creative journey and collectability, including a new Voyages feature coming out in February 2025, and current international commercials from FedEx out now. The commercials follow me through my creative process to again remind us all of the power of our collective human imagination. All of my works are signed on the front and signed and dated on the back. My original work is in the collections of JP Morgan Chase, Mattel, Jan Showers, The Grace Museum and many other public and private collections. My work is always made by me with an exactness of hand and precise detail, there are no two originals alike. My black and white contemporary work is featured in the current book Casa Santa Fe by Rizzoli. I am a member of the prestigious Artist Rights Society of New York as a living artist. I was also honored to have been chosen by Mattel to create two interpretations of Barbie that Mattel released worldwide alongside Andy Warhol's Barbie in The Barbie Artist Series, which are widely shown online. My work is inspired by nature, music, sculpture or positive aspects of the human experience. It is my hope that any piece you collect brings you a lifetime of enjoyment, and serve as a positive reminder that everyday is a new chance to begin brand new! NOTE: Each original oil painting collected here is shipped with a handmade and signed original drawing on French paper at no extra charge, and a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Oil painting depicting a mosaic of photographs overlooking an abstract geometric landscape. John Hultberg (1922 – 2005) was an American Abstract expressionist and Abstract realist painter. Early in his career he was related to the Bay Area Figurative Movement; he was also a lecturer and playwright. John Hultberg was born in 1922 in Berkeley, California. Hultberg attended Fresno State College, graduating in 1943. During World War II, he was a Navy lieutenant. After the war, his education at the California School of Fine Arts (CSFA) (now the San Francisco Art Institute) was funded by the G.I. Bill. His teachers included Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still and he was a classmate of Richard Diebenkorn, who was also a mentor, James Budd Dixon, Walter Kuhlman, Frank Lobdell, and George Stillman, which whom he created a portfolio of 17 lithographs. This 1948 portfolio, titled Drawings, has been acknowledged as a landmark in Abstract Expressionist printmaking. The group has been referred to as "The Sausalito Six," because most, lived in Sausalito, north of San Francisco. Many of the "First Generation" artists in this West Coast movement were avid fans of Abstract Expressionism, and worked in that manner, until several of them abandoned non-objective painting in favor of working with the figure. Among these First Generation Bay Area Figurative School artists were: David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Rex Ashlock, Elmer Bischoff, Glenn Wessels, Wayne Thiebaud, Raimonds Staprans, and James Weeks. The "Bridge Generation" included the artists: Henrietta Berk, Nathan Oliveira, Theophilus Brown, Paul Wonner, Roland Petersen, John Hultberg, and Frank Lobdell. He was also a contemporary of Clay Spohn and David Park. Hultberg studied at the Art Students League of New York beginning in 1952. Hultberg was first married to Hilary Blech.
