Presented in a plain dark wood frame with mount under glass. A very charming crayon drawing of a group of fishermen in their boat emptying their nets and arranging their catch. Mid-Century Oil on Canvas. Harbour scene. 'Farewell to the Fishermen'..
Located in Cotignac, FR
Mid 20th century oil on canvas of a crowded harbour scene, showing the local fisherman or sailors saying farewell to their families before going to sea. The painting is signed bottom right but the artist remains as yet unidentified. A colourful yet slightly brooding and dreamlike painting. The figures are faceless and the shapes loose and undefined reminiscent of the works by Balthus who in turn was influenced by LS Lowry and his scenes of industrial districts. The colours are deep and glowing and the shapes of the figures are rounded giving a sense of warmth and evoking the quality of light seen at either dawn or dusk. Balthasar Klossowski de Rola (February 29, 1908 – February 18, 2001), known as Balthus, was a Polish-French modern artist. He is known for his erotically charged images of pubescent girls, but also for the refined, dreamlike quality of his imagery. Lowry is famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of North West England in the mid-20th century. He developed a distinctive style of painting and is best known for his urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as "matchstick men".

Located in Cotignac, FR
French mid 20th Century drawing in the style of Georges Remi, dit Hergé. The work is not signed but is titled (Cannes) and dated (Mai 1969) to the back of the paper. Presented in modern gilt frame under glass. A charming street view of Cannes on the Cote D'Azur in the South of France, an area now internationally famous for its film annual festival. The artist has captured the imposing nature of the fine stone buildings with their blue and green shutters towering over the scene. Next to it a fine trees so characteristic of French streets are just coming in to leaf. Two men go about their business, one is walking towards a cafe. Cars and a red delivery truck animate the scene. The style of the artist is clearly inspired by the animations of Georges Remi, dit Hergé which were so popular at this period. Georges Remi, more commonly known as Hergé created his own clean, expressive style of drawings known as ligne claire...

Sailors in the Port of Nice
By Alfred Salvignol
Located in London, GB
'Sailors in the Port of Nice', mixed media - gouache, pastel and oil on paper, by Alfred Salvignol (circa 1950s). The Port of Nice is one of the key hubs of Nice and, in fact, of the entire French Riviera, standing out as one of the main harbours for the boats which sail across the Mediterranean Sea. It accommodates both the ships operated by ferry companies and the private yachts of visitors who come to Nice by sea. The artist here depicts a group of crusty sailors watching...
