About the Item

Nietzsche – Dimension : 115x73cm – Technique : Peinture à l'huile. Feuilles d’or Année : 2023 Prix : 5 900 € Born in Tehran, Behnaz Fallah known as Beni, seeks to bring a colorful perspective and breathe new life into the world of art. Self-taught artist, she is inspired by the richness of her double culture, French and Persian, to create works rich in miscegenation; Did not Michel de Montaigne say that an "honest man is a mixed man" and that one must "rub and squeeze his brains against those of others"? Her vision, which recognizes neither borders nor limits, is revealed in the various styles of painting she has used up to now, from surrealism to hyperrealism, through the abstract and the "contemporary" . Beni continues to search, to seek, to advance in his career, by embarking on new projects, constantly challenging himself as an artist. His talent and willingness to share his colorful perspective with the world and the public, continue to grow and evolve.

From my childhood, I keep an intact memory of my passages in Arles and my first courses in visual art where we study: Vincent Van Gogh, today, March 30, 2018, would have been 165 years. On our arrival, late at night, there was this sunny night light that we can guess in his nocturnal paintings...

Early Life and Education: Ghazi Baker, a proponent of Neo-expressionism, was born in 1967 in the vibrant city of Beirut, Lebanon. Raised amidst the rich cultural tapestry of Lebanon, Baker's early years were influenced by the eclectic blend of history, art, and tumultuous social dynamics of the region. In 1991, Baker graduated with distinction from the esteemed American University in Beirut, earning a degree in architecture (B. Arch). This academic pursuit not only honed his technical skills but also instilled in him a profound appreciation for spatial dynamics, form, and structure—a foundation that would later shape his distinctive artistic style. Artistic Journey: Despite his architectural training, Baker felt an irresistible pull towards the realm of visual arts. Fueled by an innate passion for creativity and expression, he embarked on a transformative journey into the world of painting. Drawing inspiration from his surroundings, Baker immersed himself in the vibrant palette of pop art and Neo-expressionism— movements characterized by i bold colors, emotive brushwork, and introspective themes.   Neo-expressionist Evolution: Baker's artistic evolution unfolded against the backdrop of a rapidly changing world. His works reflect a profound engagement with the human condition, exploring themes of identity, displacement, and the universal quest for meaning. Through his dynamic compositions and visceral imagery, Baker invites viewers to delve beneath the surface.   International Recognition: Over the years, Baker's distinctive style has garnered widespread acclaim, earning him recognition on the international stage. “Good artists borrow. Great artists steal.” A quote oft attributed to various sources that was never actually uttered by any of them. Though Mark Twain elaborated on the sentiment: “Ninety-nine parts of all things that proceed from the intellect are plagiarisms.” In the Framed Series, I use my 1% contribution to combine issues of consumption with my autobiography. I paint copies of copies of paintings within paintings to reference the appropriation, commodification, and altered continuum of art. My paintings of paintings are based on photographs of originals to perpetuate the continual distillation of form, given the ease with which images are presently exchanged and modified. Further, by reducing historically significant paintings to framed objects hanging on walls, I augment art as a commodity and reconcile the conflict between the artificially assigned monetary value of artworks with the reality that they are simply swirls of paint. In this way, I am also acknowledging the literality of my own work. I have also altered each copied painting to personalize the context of the pieces and address specific autobiographical ideas. These ideas relate to a range of both recent and distant experiences, both funny and sad. Although my initial renderings are digital image composites, my medium of choice is oil paint, applied in transparent layers, using the image on the computer screen as a reference. In addition to its lush visual properties, I enjoy the flexibility of oil paint in making acute renderings as well as the evolution of the imagery from paint to digital and back to paint in further protracting both the distillation and evolution of form. statement on piece "The character Jame Gumb, from the 1991 film and 1988 book, The Silence of the Lambs...
