About the Item
Oil on Canvas. Central Italian school of the 17th century.
The painting recalls in pictorial style the production of Angelo Caroselli (1585-1652), a Roman Baroque artist who was a painter, copyist, restorer, but also a pasticheur and connoisseur in the field of art, i.e., maker of paintings "in the manner of"-in the "technique" and "style" of a particular artistic time or author, even by assembling "parts" from different paintings.
Initially Caravaggesque in style, Il Caroselli later developed his own artistic language, which was copied by many lesser artists.
In this work, the fixed and almost exaggerated expressiveness of the character stands out, whose elegant seventeenth-century dress and features almost feminine facial features with a rosy complexion, contrast with the rawness of Goliath's bloody head, with the large stab wound standing out against the deathly pallor.
The painting was restored and re-tinted, preserving the original wooden frame.
It is presented in coeval wooden frame.
