The French artist Victor Schegin 'Seehund' lives and works in Paris.
At the age of 15, young Victor discovered tagging the streets of Paris. He later became fascinated with voluminous graffiti and soon began painting female subjects, under his alias 'Seehund'. He studied painting in various studios in Paris, but he actually learned painting mainly on the street. Just 4 years ago, all the artist's work could only be seen on walls. Seehund is now best known for his dreamy yet detailed oil paintings of surrealistic scenes and seemingly weightless characters.
Still clearly coming from streetart/ 'graffiti world', the artist himself talks about his work:
Enchanted by dreamlike settings, the figures I paint are often shadowless, rarely on a solid ground and coexist with abstract elements, as if on the edge of reality.
Destruction plays a key role in expressionism in my work. Parts deliberately left unpainted, layers overlapped by other, unexpected textures… Whether it's a realistic, animated face or a violent brushstroke, they all have the same goal: to emphasize raw emotion.
In my compositions I look for feelings of vulnerability, loneliness and hope.
