About the Item
This 21" x 17" oil on canvas painting by David Crown, depicts an abstracted rendering of an interior scene, rich in color and detail. Dominating the composition but positioned in the background behind the interior features, is a large window with yellow frames, serving as an opening to the outside world, taking up a majority of the composition. Through this window, we see a clear blue sky, dotted with round white clouds, suggesting a serene day, as well as a vast blue ocean, identified by the little yellow sailboat, blending in with sky above. The window also reveals a mustard yellow railing upon a black balcony, subtly hinting at the existence of an exterior space beyond the room. Inside the room, to the left, a slender, purple vase holds a bouquet of purple flowers that sits upon a table like shape, with various blue, yellow and black lines and red shapes. The flowers are represented by simple circles, connected to skinny purple stems, held in the vase just described. This floral element introduces a touch of nature into the indoor setting, creating a harmonious blend of interior and exterior elements, as did the blue sky and ocean as well. In front of the window, to the right of the vase, positioned on the floor, is a light blue abstract object with a yellow base that could be interpreted as a seat or couch, with a red geometric shape layered over it, presumably a decorative pillow that sits upon the couch.
The floor itself is a visual grab, patterned with hexagonal tiles, outlined with black and painted with a neutral grey color. This intricate pattern adds a layer of complexity to the scene, enhancing the visual interest of the composition.
Overall, the painting employs a bold and vibrant color palette, with blues, yellows, reds, purples, and greens creating a striking contrast. These colors infuse the scene with energy and movement, making the painting a captivating visual experience.

'Abstract #18', by Anthony Dyke, Oil Painting on Panel
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 11" x 14" oil on canvas painting is by Boston-based artist, Anthony Dyke. The painting is an example of geometric abstraction, composed through an arrangement of rectilinear forms, each rendered in bold, saturated color.
Dominating the left side is a deep green vertical rectangle and adjacent to it is a narrow red vertical stripe, generating a visual dialogue between the broader green plane and the surrounding forms. A field of light blue occupies the top portion above. mid-composition, a horizontal mint green band stretches across the surface, and on top rests a tilted rectangular form shifting from white to warm red in a subtle gradient. To the far right, a tall blue vertical bar intersects with a fine yellow line. The base of the painting features a complex layering of darker hues: a black horizontal stripe, accompanied by stacked rectangles in red, purple, and yellow.
Anthony Dyke was born in Norwich, Vermont and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University earning a BFA and MFA in painting. As an artist and arts educator, he relocated from New York City to his downtown Oklahoma City studio, working there for two decades before returning to Boston in 2020. Coming from Vermont where the seasons are distinctly different from one another, his shift from a pastoral setting to an urban environment set up a dichotomy in the work, both visual and emotional. Tony has an extensive education in painting, photography, graphic design and figure sculpture. These mediums intersect in his work through many years of creating artworks and currently speak to his interest in abstract painting. During his senior year in the BFA Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, my large painting “Natole” was chosen by Frank Stella (the juror) into the highly competitive and prestigious Dana Pond...
