About the Item

In this colorful, imaginary landscape, diminutive saffron finches fly through the yellow leaves and graceful branches of a tropical Bacarubu tree. The light of the evening sun reflects atmospheric particles, while the liquidity of humid skies block bright red and orange light, resulting in a vivid pink sunset. A volcano quietly vents in the distance, a reminder of nature's power. This original oil painting is a triptych. Each section is 20 x 20 inches. All three sections together are 20 x 60 inches. Painted on gallery wrapped linen, with 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers, it is wired with finger friendly, coated wire for easy installation. The edges are hand painted, providing a finished look, suitable for framing, or beautiful left as is. Katherine Kean’s paintings seek moments of breath-taking transition in nature; a gathering of clouds or changing tides; times when the elements of the landscape combine with the alchemy of imagination to illuminate the world of heightened mood and sensation. Her work aims to capture these fleeting moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of nature's turbulence. She has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States and has been acquired by many private and corporate collections. She has been honored to have her work selected for Bloomingdales in Santa Monica, California, Schiffer's 100 Artists of the West Coast II, Paint America's Paint the Parks, Manhattan Arts Healing Arts International's Celebrate the Healing Power of Art and the National Weather Center 2015 Biennale.

Drifting Glo landscape clouds colorful
By Katherine Kean

The light of the setting sun reflects atmospheric particles, creating vivid color, a reminder of nature's power. Oil on gallery wrapped linen with hand painted edges. Wired for installation with finger-friendly coated wire. From the artist: As a painter, I seek moments of breath-taking transition in nature; a gathering of clouds or changing tides; times when the elements of the landscape combine with the alchemy of imagination to illuminate the world of heightened mood and sensation. My paintings aim to capture these fleeting moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of nature's turbulence. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean's vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean's now native California. Born in West Virginia, moving later to Ohio and New Jersey, but growing up mainly in Massachusetts, she attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, Video and Animation. Long fascinated by the intersection of order and chaos in the natural world, Katherine Kean skillfully uses observation, memory, and interpretation to translate her love of nature's kinetic phenomena into paintings that capture the often turbulent emotions within light, weather, and landscapes. Her work has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, including the LACMA Art Rental and Sales Gallery and the Brand Library Art Gallery in Los Angeles...

The Return of Spring (Modern Abstract Acrylic Painting in Pink, Yellow, & Gold)
By Ragellah Rourke
Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract acrylic painting on canvas with a pastel pink, yellow, and gold palette “The Return of Spring”, painted by Ragellah Rourke in 2019 48 x 36 inches, acrylic on canvas Sides are cleanly painted so additional framing is optional Wire backing for easy hanging Artist signature located on the back This contemporary, abstract painting was created by Hudson Valley based artist, Ragellah Rourke in 2019. Her most recent body of work focuses on relationships between color and space. Elements of symbolism, reminiscent of Gustav Klimt, decorate the composition with abstract markings and calligraphic gestural brushwork. Warm yellow and gold tones with hints of green radiate upwards into a background of pastel pink, recalling the awaking the nature during the beginning of spring. There is wire installed on the back for easy hanging. The painting’s sides are cleanly painted so additional framing is optional. Artist Statement: My paintings are very textural and built up slowly over long periods of time. The surface holds the memory of the painting’s development, all the time looking for clues for what will come next. I look for connections between the forms that develop. They are never something that I logically calculate, but rather a long string of chances, thoughts, and guesses. The appearance and meaning develop throughout the progression of the painting. It is a continuous search for resolution, balance and mystery within the painting.
