What the Night Delivers Black and Yellow Art Abstract Painting, Contemporary Art
Located in Deddington, GB
What the night delivers" an original abstract contemporary landscape by Gina Parr and other works from the series "Love or Money", explore the deep emotional connection with land and sea scape that the Artist's father gave to her; taking her with him on his day and night fishing trips when she was a child. Working with the memories and emotions of both joy and saudade for time past and life experience gained, her practice reflects her fundamental need to express this bitter- sweet nature of the human condition through abstracted scape and form. In this work Parr is interested in conveying both the joy and the apprehension of her memory of an overnight trip in the darkness to fish with her father. Gina Parr is available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Gina works predominantly in the medium of painting, but also photographs when traveling: her way of painting whilst on the move. Her work is driven by autobiographical themes and natural reference, exploring the human condition through connections to place, time, space and memory. She has exhibited widely in galleries and art fairs in the UK and completed commissions in The Middle East, Belguim and London. Her works are held in collections Worldwide including Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston's Children's Museum USA, and Goldman Sachs Senior Economist, London. Originally trained as a Fine Artist, graduating with a First Class BA Honours Degree, she went on to Chelsea College of Art to study Set...

Pilgrims Waiting at the Gate, Women in the Arts, Hope and Wisdom, Oil, Nature
Located in Houston, TX
Pilgrims Waiting at the Gate shows that flowers, birds and snow are symbols for emotional states or story elements. Dogs sometimes accompany the pale bald “Everywoman” protagonist on her journeys that often take place beneath a starry moonlit sky. She has been called a mythic artist, telling ancient stories that never grow old. Pilgrims are beneath the Moon approaching the Gate as seen in Pilgrims at the Gate in the oil painting on canvas. LOOK FOR 1STDIBS DISCOUNT CODE ON SHIPPING OR GALLERY QUOTE The artists says: "I love to show the strength and optimistic attributes of women. Even when they are in a quandary or in danger, I always try to show a glimmer of hope and wisdom—that they will solve the riddle and make it through, stronger and with dignity. Being bald and shorn of any particular identity, they become all women.” She is also a published poet and her paintings have appeared as cover art for literary journals and poetry collections. Recently her painting “Thoreau’s Pumpkin” was included in the Hudson River Museum...

Serenissima - Untitled, Blue and Red Abstract Painting, Abstract Venice Art
Located in Deddington, GB
One of two large paintings that celebrate the spirit of Venice by abstracting a series of views to create a picture reflecting the strength of the city. Discover new paintings by Jon Rowland and his abstract paintings online and in our gallery with Wychwood Art. Each work has been carefully selected by Deborah Allan our Chief Art Curator. Wychwood Art have exhibited Jon Rowland in London during a pop-up exhibition of theirs at the Darren Baker Gallery. His paintings have been displayed at the Royal Academy and at the Berthold and Darren Baker Gallery in London. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Linacre and Green Colleges, at Swann Gallery in Woodstock, and with Wychwood Art at Battersea Art Fair. He was one of six contemporary artists who took part in an exhibition of views of Blenheim Palace, juxtaposing the original visions with today's, as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown's birth. Solo exhibitions have been at the Said Business School, Wolfson College in Central Oxford, and most recently at the Sewell Centre Art Gallery and Cornerstone Art Centre in Oxfordshire, and the Boiler Room Gallery in Central Oxford. Through Wychwood Art, he has carried out several large scale commissions for private clients. Jon comments: Painting is a journey. One starts at one place - the blank canvas, and hopefully ends at a resolution. Sometimes one gets lost. My aim in this journey is to create original, contemporary art that is grounded in place. Chance and opportunity are the travelling companions; but the art is to know when the journey is complete. I tend to work in series, with references to locations that are abstracted, reflecting on themes of colour, movement and space. In some themes I use concepts...

West Point Through the Marshlands
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Tony Khawam is an established contemporary artist known for his semi-abstracted work of the New York urban and industrial landscape and recently of South Florida. He holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY and has exhibited in galleries throughout the U.S. and Europe. He has experimented with outdoor paintings throughout his artistic career to learn from the predecessor artists of the Hudson River school, the impressionists, post-impressionists and modernists and created a unique contemporary representational body of work. The paintings are expressed through his emotions toward nature or an urban scene with a spontaneous and rapid execution of painterly style to capture the essence of the moment including reworking the paintings in his studio from memory to add his final touches. Khawam studies and observes nature and the surrounding areas near his studios in North New Jersey and South Florida by doing sketches and paintings in plein-air around the Hudson River in upstate New York, between Nyack and West Point...

Untitled 26, Abstract Landscape Paintings, Large Atmospheric Moody Artwork
Located in Deddington, GB
Implied abstract imagery reveals conflict between beauty and desolation ,whilst Romanticism and Modernism combine with clashing qualities of drawing and painting. Images develop through a series of intuitive acts. Repeated applications of thin films of ink and paint build depth and patina. Layers are often removed by washing and scrubbing, revealing a palimpsest of faded marks and former painterly decisions, exposing the underbelly, vulnerable and tender. Philippa Anderson...

I Came to Where the Lone Pilgrim Lay, River Landscape Oil on Canvas, Western Art
By Michael Ome Untiedt
Located in Whitefish, MT
I Came to Where the Lone Pilgrim Lay by Michael Ome Untiedt Oil on Canvas, 36" x 48", 43" x 55" (framed), hanging hardware included. From the artist: "In Memory of Tom Horn: This is another of my feeble attempts to break down, to rage against the tyranny of time. I have fought this battle for a half century, yet my limbs grow slower, my hair more moon-bleached. I ponder as I apply brush strokes to the canvas, what thoughts pass through the viewer of this work a hundred years hence, two hundred years later? Will they know what I carry in my heart today? Am I on a great mandala of life, and will I return one day to this same experience, or am I adrift on a great "river" flowing endlessly through the Cosmos, heeding shoal water and seeking shoreline that is forever changing? A dear friend passed this week from the plague scourging our fair land. When and where will I hear his sweet self deprecating laughter again?" Born and raised in rural southeastern Colorado, Michael Ome Untiedt maintains a studio in Denver. Traveling extensively, he is known as a painter of the world who sees with a westerner’s eye. Through the color, brush strokes, and symbolic subject matter of his paintings, he attempts to examine the human predicament and its connections to the landscape and history of the American West. He is driven to portray twenty-first-century psychology on a nineteenth-century saddle! Untiedt has participated in numerous shows including the Western Masters Art Show and Sale, Settler’s West Miniatures Show and Art of the American West...

Paradise Pool
Located in San Luis Obispo, CA
Scott Yeskel was raised in the suburbs of Orange County, California after his parents moved from New Jersey when he was a child. The mild weather and suburban sprawl fueled Scott’s interest in the landscape.

After graduating from high school, he moved to San Francisco to pursue an education in the arts. Yeskel graduated from the Academy of Art College in 2002 where he won first place in the Landscape category at the Academy’s Annual Spring Show. He was quickly picked up by galleries in Philadelphia, Laguna Beach and San Francisco. Since that time, Scott has been the subject of over a dozen solo shows, countless group exhibitions and has been featured in over 20 magazine and newspaper editorials.

His work speaks to those who identify with the California lifestyle – often romantic but sometimes plagued with frustration. His love/hate relationship with Los Angeles’ freeways, boxy apartments and urban sprawl feed Yeskel’s desire to paint his environment as he sees – a jumble of mixed emotions. Recently, Scott’s work was purchased by prestigious corporate collections including Microsoft and NBC/ Universal. Scott currently teaches an Abstract Workshop at the Kline Academy in West LA and resides with his wife and daughter in Los Angeles. Dappled Forest, Pointillist Forest Landscape, Green Leaves, Brown Trees, Woods
Located in Kent, CT
In this pointillist landscape, a forest scene with trees in woods is carefully painted in colorful dots in acrylic and gouache on Duralar mounted on panel. Signed and dated on verso. Kirstin Lamb’s gridded, meticulously detailed paintings on transparent acetate are labor-intensive paintings of labor-intensive textiles and patterns. To create these embroidery paintings, Lamb starts by generating a digitized grid and painstakingly painting each individual gridded stitch by hand using acrylic and gouache on a wet media acetate. The process creates a one-to-one relationship of mark to stitch, the act of each brushstroke serving for the stitch of a needle. Lamb’s embroidery paintings draw patterns from French floral wallpaper of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, while others draw inspiration from vintage embroidery...

It could be argued that cave walls were the canvases for the world’s first landscape paintings, which depict and elevate natural scenery through art, but there is a richer history to consider.

The Netherlands was home to landscapes as a major theme in painting as early as the 1500s, and ink-on-silk paintings in China featured mountains and large bodies of water as far back as the third century. Greeks created vast wall paintings that depicted landscapes and grandiose garden scenes, while in the late 15th century and early 16th century, landscapes were increasingly the subject of watercolor works by the likes of Leonardo da Vinci and Fra Bartolomeo.

The popularity of religious paintings eventually declined altogether, and by the early 19th century, painters of classical landscapes took to painting out-of-doors (plein-air painting). Paintings of natural scenery were increasingly realistic but romanticized too. Into the 20th century, landscapes remained a major theme for many artists, and while the term “landscape painting” may call to mind images of lush, grassy fields and open seascapes, the genre is characterized by more variety, colors and diverse styles than you may think. Painters working in the photorealist style of landscape painting, for example, seek to create works so lifelike that you may confuse their paint for camera pixels. But if you’re shopping for art to outfit an important room, the work needs to be something with a bit of gravitas (and the right frame is important, too).

Adding a landscape painting to your home can introduce peace and serenity within the confines of your own space. (Some may think of it as an aspirational window of sorts rather than a canvas.) Abstract landscape paintings by the likes of Korean painter Seungyoon Choi or Georgia-based artist Katherine Sandoz, on the other hand, bring pops of color and movement into a room. These landscapes refuse to serve as a background. Elsewhere, Adam Straus’s technology-inspired paintings highlight how our extreme involvement with our devices has removed us from the glory of the world around us. Influenced by modern life and steeped in social commentary, Straus’s landscape paintings make us see our surroundings anew.

Whether you’re seeking works by the world’s most notable names or those authored by underground legends, find a vast collection of landscape paintings on 1stDibs.
