About the Item
Adolph Kronengold was born in New Orleans in 1900. He studied locally at Tulane, before moving on to New York and Philadelphia. There he studied at the Art Students League and the Pennsylvania Academy and further on to Paris to complete his art education. He returned to the United States and was known to have established art schools in New York and the Alaska Territory. In 1952, he returned to New Orleans and set up a yet another school there, painting scenes of the local architecture and culture. He died in that city in 1986, after a career of over 60 years.
This landscape painting seems certainly to be from his Alaska period. It dates to ca 1940’s and the scene features a northern forest with views to higher snow covered mountains. It’s a colorful summer day with the river running freely and sun fully out. The work showcases Kronengold’s post-impressionist used of paint and brushstrokes as well as his ability to construct an energetic composition from nature.
The painting is oil on board and measures 16” x. 20”. It is signed lower right. The frame is a fairly ornate frame of the World War II era, before more modern styles became popular.
It measures 20 1/4” x 24 1/4” at its widest points. Both the painting and the frame are in very good condition. The work is ready to hang on the wall or location of your choice.
