American Impressionist Paul Cornoyer, "Bearksin Neck, Rockport"

Paul Cornoyer, born in 1864 in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American Impressionist artist. Initially studying at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts under Halsey C. Ives, he began his artistic journey painting in a style reminiscent of the Barbizon School. His first exhibition took place in 1887, followed by further studies in Paris at the Académie Julian under notable instructors such as Jules Lefebre, Louis Blanc, and Benjamin Constant. Inspired by French Impressionism during his travels to Paris, London, and Venice, Cornoyer embraced a more fluid and tonal style, particularly evident in his landscapes and cityscapes.
Returning to St. Louis in 1894, he painted a mural at the Planters Hotel, depicting the city's birth. Over the next six years, little is known about his work except for the creation of a significant triptych titled "A View of St. Louis," which became iconic for the city.
Encouraged by the artist William Merritt Chase, Cornoyer moved to New York City in 1899, where he gained recognition for his urban cityscapes, particularly scenes after rainfall. Capturing the essence of city life with vivid depictions of streets, carriages, and towering buildings, Cornoyer's work became synonymous with New York's urban landscape. He also taught at the Mechanics Institute and mingled with prominent artists such as Childe Hassam and J. Alden Weir, expanding his artistic circle to include New England art schools.

Salvatore Colacicco is a world-renowned marine artist who was
born in 1935 in Bellagio, near Lake Como and studied at Brera Academy,
Milan. He has been living in England for over thirty years. Nearly all
Salvatore Colacicco's paintings during that time have been
exported to the United States and sold through Tonkins of Nantucket Island.
These now adorn the walls of many a Board Room and Directors
Office throughout the States.
Colacicco's style of painting very much reminds one of
marine artists throughout the 19th century with an obvious Italian feel.
Among Colacicco's achievements were 26 panels illustrating the
history and development of the paddle steamer
(of which he had made a special study of those used on the Italian Lakes),
painted for the Russell Cotes Museum in Bournemouth and
most works by Salvatore Colacicco fetch good figures even at auction

The son of an English father and a Dutch mother, Harry Leith-Ross was born in the British Colony of Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean a thousand miles off the southeast coast of Africa. His first formal art instruction began in England under Stanhope Forbes, followed by studies with Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian in Paris. Leith-Ross came to the United States to enroll at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1910, and then to Woodstock, in 1913. Greenfield-Sanders’ landscape paintings invite the viewer into nostalgia, to forge a connection to their own experience. Using found vintage photography as a starting point, she creates several iterations of each image, which she alters with pencil and watercolor, and finally paints over with oil. They emerge simultaneously familiar yet enigmatic. She elaborates, stating, “All of my paintings are based on amateur slides from seventy years ago. I am interested in the ‘comfortably familiar’ nature of the images and how the elapsed time allows them to ‘prickle with new meaning’ to connect that which was worth capturing with that which is worth painting, at present.” The paintings require a great deal of forethought and groundwork, but still appear unlabored and fresh. Her style of painting, which prizes color, representation and evocation, is activated by both individual experience and collective memory.
