Cesare Bentivoglio was an Italian painter born in Genoa in 1868 and died in the same city in 1952.
He was self-taught but also studied under Antonio Varni and Giuseppe Sacheri.
His favorite subjects were landscapes, seascapes (often depicting the Ligurian coast: Cinque Terre, Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Portofino, etc.), mountains, port views, still lifes, and hunting scenes.
He was also influenced by the Grigio School or School of Grays: a Ligurian artistic movement that, in the second half of the 19th century, renewed the approach to landscape, adhering to the anti-academic and naturalistic artistic vision then in vogue in France.
