Brazos River is an 18 x 18 monotype/ collage by Texas artist Charlotte Seifert. Brazos is 18 x 18 and framed it is 25 x 25. The monotype collage is printed on RFK Paper in Houston, Texas. The Brazos River, called the Río de los Brazos de Dios by early Spanish explorers, is the 14th-longest river in the United States at 1,280 miles from its headwater source at the head of Blackwater Draw, Roosevelt County, New Mexico to its mouth at the Gulf of Mexico with a 45,000-square-mile drainage basin.
Monotype Collage
A one-of-a kind original print made by putting ink on a plexiglass or metal plate. Printmaking paper is then put on top of the plate and the plate & paper are rolled through a printing press.
The resulting print is called a monotype.
Collage is an art form that is made up of overlapping pieces of material, such as photographs, fabric, coloured and textured paper and other types of mixed media on top of the monotype. These are one of one pieces of art.
This piece was recently completed in 2023. It is protected by conservation Plexiglass. The piece of art is 1/1 and was produced in 2023.
The images are hand cut and attached to the monotype print. This is the only print so that is why it is a monotype. The image is transferred from the plate onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, usually using a printing-press.
Monotypes can also be created by inking an entire surface and then, using brushes or rags, removing ink to create areas of light from a solid area of opaque colour. A monotype impression is usually unique, though a second, lighter impression from the painted printing plate can sometimes be made, though it will be a lot lighter and generally inferior in quality.

This Houston based artist has been making art for most of her life. She was trained at SMU where she earned her BFA and MFA in painting. Her first art instructor was Roger Winter who was teaching a high school class at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Charlotte's work is largely abstract with landscape and nature elements incorporated into her work. Her inspiration comes from themes in literature, theology and personal history. Evoking an emotion or sense of place is Charlotte's focus rather than depicting a specific setting or rendering a certain object. Nature has become a metaphor for her for the current of constant change in life and love.
Her work has been exhibited in juried shows, one-woman shows and groups exhibitions. Charlotte has been teaching art for many years through private instruction as well as at private a private classical school.
