About the Item

Provenance Consigned to the gallery by private collectors Description In Jean Mannheim’s "Pathway to the Church" a lone figure walks up a narrow dirt path through a field lined with stands of eucalyptus trees, heading toward a beautiful white chapel with a red tiled roof and steeple. In the far distance through a gap in the trees, can be seen a fading blue sky and purple range of the San Gabriel mountains. Prominently placed in the foreground are yucca plants, signaling the location as the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena, California. The artist lived on South Arroyo Boulevard along the banks of the Arroyo Seco. It seems to be early evening, when there are few shadows, lending a somber mood to the lovely painting, suggesting the figure seeks either redemption or solace. Frame Wood with gold-tone (metal) finish. Artist Information DAV, Benezit Vol. 9 p. 173 (listed as “Jan”), AIC p. 720, Whos2 p. 2174.
