Little is known about Fritz Vogt until 1890 to 1900 when he earned a reputation for doing nearly 500 graphic architectural drawings near Sharon Springs and Ames in upstate New York. These were rural agricultural towns of German immigrants.
His renderings were precise and detailed and indicate he had studied architecture either in Germany or America. His work resembles drawing produced for the Beers Company of Philadelphia, publishers of atlases, but extensive attempts to research his life before 1890 have not been successful. It is known that when he did his upstate New York drawings he stayed with farm families and worked with paper, pencil, and ruler, and that he often worked outdoors. He played musical instruments and sometimes worked as a farm hand.
His drawings, many of them in color pencil, showed the types of crops planted, the animals, and details of the buildings. He also did several drawings of churches...

Lauren Ohlgren (American, b. 1959) began her art career in the mid 1990’s making hand-painted silk and art-to-wear. She then began to work in encaustics, and later incorporated various mixed media into her artwork. Ohlgren was the curator of Journal 365, A Page A Day community project in 2015 and The She Project, 2005-2013. Ohlgren is also the author of 2005 award winning book, The She Project; How ‘She’ Inspired a Community.

"Copse" is an oil painting with chalk and graphite on wood panel, and measures 16" high by 12" wide. It is finished with a clear resin across the surface, lending the artwork a particular warmth and liquidity that is rare and lovely to behold. Typical of the artist, the painting is a mystery despite its apparent simplicity – the landscape with trees on the horizon, the wide full sky bearing down with clouds and light. The picture surface is very interesting – drawn lines and painterly brushstrokes to be sure, but note the speed and swift conviction of those brushstrokes. "A Vision at Sea" is an acrylic painting with graphite on wood measuring 22" high by 28" wide. It is a fraught moment for man and dog in the boat – they may be the Vision of the title but they are also struck by a vision they alone can see. Note the antlers at the front of the boat, the harsh and ragged shoreline, oars in the water – arguably in the tradition of storm-tossed poets at sea, fighting the Fates as much as the power of Nature.
