About the Item
This painting is part of the artists' Paradise series, an ongoing project that began in 2021. Several works from the series were recently exhibited during Miami Art Week 2024 in collaboration with the artist's gallery. Created with acrylic paint on a custom wood panel, the piece employs a palette of black and tan to depict a dynamic landscape rich with energy and expressive language.
A recurring motif in the series, this painting features a palm tree, waves, and clouds. The palm tree—a universal symbol of paradise, relaxation, and peace—stands in contrast to the text incorporated into the work. The text reflects themes of universal harmony, utopian and utilitarian philosophy, and the aspiration for a world where human needs are universally met. It embodies a hope for humanity to transcend its primitive, destructive tendencies and evolve toward a more peaceful existence.
Matt Higgins b. 1987 is an artist and art professor who lives and works in Philadelphia, Pa. He maintains a regular studio practice in the Fishtown neighborhood focusing on painting in a variety of styles and bodies of work. His work is included in numerous private collections and has been included in a wide range of interior design projects including residential properties, corporations, and hotels

Matt Higgins is an artist and art professor who lives and works in Philadelphia, Pa. He received his MFA from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and BFA from West Chester University. His work is included in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States, Europe and Australia. His various bodies of work focus on themes of abstraction, the landscape and text based paintings. His work can be viewed as a constant progression, as well as a cycle from one body of work to the next. He often times returns to existing themes or motifs with a fresh outlook after departing for periods of time. Growth and learning is a significant part of the artists practice and this continued openness and exploration is what keeps his work fresh and original from one body of work to the next, never settling for predictability or the mundane.
