A fine coastal painting of waves crashing by American artist Stanley Wingate Woodward (1890-1970). Woodward was born in Malden, Massachusetts, and went on to author Adventures in Marine Painting (1948) and Marine Painting in Oil and Watercolor (1961) and also illustrated for Collier’s and Ford Times magazines.He became well recognized for his marine paintings and seascapes. Oil on panel, signed lower right, signed titled and dated on verso “Summer Sea, Ogunquit ME” by Stanley Woodward, March 1945, and housed in an ebonized wooden frame with linen lined inset. Dimensions: 11 ⅞” H x 15 ⅞” W, actual; 18 ¼” H x 22 ¼” W x ¾” D. Ref: 8
